| This kayak tour is an easy paddle, and is a chance for you and some friends to try something new for very little money (less than the rental cost of a kayak)!. You will each have safety gear, including a light for your kayak. This lets other craft see you, (and also makes the tour look like a small parade of lights. The tour launches in Osprey, and travels about 2 miles to a beautiful beach (and back of course)! There's no better way to watch the moon and stars. Bring a snack if you want. We won't swim there (swimming near shore at night is not recommended) but you'll have lots to enjoy. Early evening is a wonderful time to observe many types of birds and the marine life found here in Sarasota. The preserve nearby is well known for the number of birds there, and If you love birdwatching, you may see Brown Pelicans, Great Blue Herons, Cormorants, Anhinga, Ospreys, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Kingfishers, Wood Storks, White Ibis, Night Herons, or Rosate Spoonbills. Bring your binoculars and camera. We'll keep some distance away so they are not disturbed. Depending on the time of day, you may see raccoons foraging, dolphins in the Gulf or Intracoastal Waterway, and mullet jumping around the kayaks. In the fall we often see manatees come around the kayaks in the evening. We usually launch an hour before sundown, and are on the tour for about 2 1/2 hours. We can do the tour almost any evening if the skies are clear, but it is best when there is a full moon. Click here for the times for sunset / moonrise. You'll want to bring some water, sunglasses, bug spray (just in case), and a snack. The paddle is easy and will show you a different aspect of kayaking. You'll probably make some very good friends on the paddle too! Please call ahead of time to reserve this tour and handle all details prior to arriving at the launch site.
