| This kayak tour in Little Sarasota Bay is relaxing, very easy to paddle, and includes some time on an especially pretty beach. You can swim if you want, spend some time finding sharks' teeth, shells, or watch dolphins play. We end up next to the Jim Neville preserve, an excellent place for birdwatching. In Florida, wildlife turns up everywhere, often unexpectedly. While on the tour you might see raccoons foraging, have mullet jumping around your kayak, or see a stingray. It's possible to see a manatee, or dolphins playing in the Gulf or the Intracoastal Waterway. It's surprising to realize how much life there is around us. Other times, we mainly enjoy the sea and skies. Just relax, and we'll see what's around us as we paddle. You'll get some kayaking instruction to help you get started as a kayaker. This does make the trip more enjoyable. We will pass by several varieties of Mangroves and learn how they contribute to the eco-system. We'll learn about the oysterbeds, different types of sea-grass, varigated sea urchins, types of fish, etc. And of course we'll pass dozens of beautiful mansions on Casey Key. If you want to do birdwatching here, the best time is Spring, but birds are plentiful year round. Bring your binoculars and camera..You may see Brown Pelicans, Great Blue Herons, Cormorants, Anhinga, Ospreys, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Kingfishers, Wood Storks, White Ibis, Night Herons, Rosate Spoonbills, Frigates and terns are around too. This is a relaxed tour. Bring a hat and sunglasses, water, your sunscreen, and clothes that can get wet. I recommend some water shoes as well. Please call ahead of time to reserve your place. We need to arrange all details prior to arriving at the launch site. We launch from the boat ramp on the north side of Blackburn Point Road just past the steel swing bridge. After the tour, you can step across the street and visit the Casey Key Fish House for a nice meal. |
